Here’s something to think about: do you need to write a Social Media Will? Why, you might ask? It’s to determine , or actually direct, what happens to your on-line life after you die. Your Facebook and other on-line accounts contain a lot of your personal information and photos, you should plan to manage that information in some way, just as you would your financial information. Do you have a letter of direction for the executor of your will explaining where your bank accounts are? Now you should consider including your social media and other online passwords in that letter of direction.
The government is even recommending it. They added the topic to the list under personal financial recommendations, next to the section on Wills, Executors and Estate Planning. Here’s a short video from a Houston television station talking about creating a Social Media Will.
Here’s a link to the video if it does not load in your browser.
Is this something you’ve considered? Will you now?
